Coventry City have secured promotion back to the Premier League after 25 years away, following a dramatic 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers.
The decisive moment came late in the game when defender Bobby Thomas scored an equaliser in the 84th minute at Ewood Park. His goal earned Coventry the point they needed to confirm promotion and sparked celebrations among travelling fans.
Blackburn had taken the lead earlier in the second half through Ryoya Morishita, who finished from close range in the 54th minute. The home side looked set to win, but Coventry pushed forward late on and found their breakthrough.
The result marks a historic return for Coventry, who last played in the Premier League in 2001. Over the years, the club dropped as far as League Two before rebuilding and climbing back up the English football system.
Manager Frank Lampard led the team to promotion, completing a remarkable turnaround. After the final whistle, players and staff celebrated with fans, marking one of the club’s biggest achievements in decades.
Lampard described the moment as special, highlighting the long journey the club has taken. He said the achievement means a lot to supporters who have waited many years to see Coventry back in the top flight.
The promotion also continues a period of steady progress for the club, which has now achieved multiple promotions in recent seasons.
For Coventry City, the wait is finally over — they are back among England’s elite after 25 years.
