A six-year-old Nigerian girl, Amna Ayomide Bennett, has died after falling from a bedroom window on the 28th floor of an apartment building in Toronto, raising fresh concerns about child safety measures in high-rise residential buildings.
The tragic incident happened on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at an apartment complex located at 200 Chalkfarm Drive in the city’s North York area.
According to Toronto Police Service, officers responded to the scene around 8:15 p.m. after reports that the child had fallen from the building.
Police spokesperson Amy Davey said investigators have not determined how the girl fell from the apartment window, although authorities currently do not suspect foul play.
“It does not appear suspicious,” Davey said.
Superintendent Jack Gurr also stated that officers found no evidence of criminal activity after examining the apartment where the incident occurred.
