Cleaning oven glass can be a nightmare, but Erin, a natural cleaning expert and founder of Lemons Lavender and Laundry, has shared an “amazing” hack that leaves it looking “like a mirror” – and it only requires one product: baking soda.
Erin confessed, “I have to admit, I never really paid attention to the inside of my oven door. I simply ignored the fact that baked-on food had been accumulating for years.” She added, “Among the many tips and tricks on how to clean a glass oven door, I love this method because it uses one simple, natural ingredient: baking soda.”
Baking soda is alkaline, meaning its high pH level can break down acidic substances like grease or burnt food. It’s also mildly abrasive, so it can easily wipe away grime without scratching the glass, reports the Express. Erin noted, “While using baking soda takes a little more time and effort than using an oven cleaner, it certainly does the job; and without harmful chemicals.”
So, how do you clean a glass door with baking soda? All you need is baking soda, a sponge, and a non-scratch scour pad.
First, smother your glass oven door with a generous amount of baking soda. Erin explained, “The goal is to cover the entire glass oven door with the baking soda paste. If you find you do not have enough paste, simply add more baking soda and water.”
“If the paste is thick and clumpy, add more water; if it’s thin and runny, add more baking soda.”
Let the concoction sit for about 30 to 60 minutes, or even overnight for particularly grimy doors. When it’s time, grab your scourer, wet it, and start scrubbing away at a small section. You’ll be amazed as the grime just vanishes.
Once you’ve banished all that baked-on gunk, take a damp sponge and wipe away any leftover paste. Erin couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw her oven glass transform into something resembling a mirror after trying out this hack. She exclaimed, “I’d say that was one successful cleaning tip!”
