Ivory Coast emerged victorious on February 11, 2024 as they rallied from a goal down to defeat Nigeria 2-1 in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.
Nigeria, aiming for their fourth title, took the lead in the 38th minute of the first half as William Troost-Ekong headed in a goal. However, Ivory Coast were on level terms in the 62nd minute of the second half through a Franck Kessie’s header.
Sebastien Haller however secured the win for Ivory Coast, slipping the ball past Stanley Nwabali.
This victory draws Ivory Coast level with Nigeria, each boasting three continental titles.
