Renowned poet and playwright, Jimi Solanke, known for his roles in classics like Kongi’s Harvest and Sango, has passed away at the age of 81.
Sudden Demise During Transit to Hospital
Jimi Solanke reportedly breathed his last on Monday while being urgently transported from his country home in Ipara Remo, Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State, to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan.
Chief Solanke had been in and out of hospitals since December before succumbing to the cold hand of death on Monday morning.
Confirmation from State Assembly Representative
Hon Dickson Awolaja, representing Remo North State Constituency at the state Assembly, confirmed the departure of the highly gifted artist.
“I got wind of the demise of Pa Jimi Solanke not long ago. His death is undoubtedly another significant loss to us in Remo North and Ogun State as a whole, given his worthy contributions to the development of our dear nation. May his soul rest in peace, ” Awolaja was quoted on Punchng.
