Six teams have mathematically secured their places in the Last 16 of the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League group stage.
On Tuesday, holders Manchester Cityand RB Leipzig advanced from Group G with two games to spare. City put three past Young Boys, while the Germans beat Red Star in Belgrade to progress.
Four more teams advanced on Wednesday, Match Day 4. Real Madrid progressed from the group stage for the 28th time since 1995-1996 by defeating Braga 3-0. Ancelotti’s men scored 12 points after four wins from four and are scheduled to play Napoli at home and travel to Berlin.
Real Sociedad, the surprise team in Group D topped the group with three wins and a draw. They were 3-0 up against Benfica after half an hour on Wednesday night. Inter Milan also advanced from Group D after a late Lautaro Martinez penalty secured maximum points against Salzburg.
Bayern Munich also have four wins from four games after beating Galatasaray 2-1 on Wednesday. A six minute double for Harry Kane ensured that they remained dominant in Group A. The will play host to Copenhagen in game 5.
Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Inter Milan, Manchester City, RB Leipzig, and Bayern Munich are all set for Round of 16 action in February. The draw for the Round of 16 is scheduled for Monday, 18 December. Clubs from the same national federation and those that have already faced each other in the group stage will not meet in the Round of 16 qualifiers.
The next stage of the competition will begin in February, with games scheduled on 13, 14, and 20/21 February. The return legs will be played on 5, 6, 12, and 13 March. The draw for the quarterfinals and semifinals will be held on 15 March, setting the path for the final on 1 June, 2024, at Wembley (London).
