The Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, VON, Osita Okechukwu has said that Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP cannot insist on the rule of law when he is known to flout them.
The DG further went on to advise Nigerians to be wary of Atiku Abubakar and his inordinate desperation to rule the Nigerian state.
“An elder statesman who vehemently breached the rotation convention in his party’s constitution and the subsisting national rotation convention cannot talk of the rule of law.”
Okechukwu emphasized the importance of upholding democratic principles and criticized Atiku for violating the PDP’s constitution, ultimately benefiting Bola Tinubu.
The constitution of the PDP advocated for a rotational nomination for the office of the president between the north and South. Atiku however was able to emerge winner of the primary and contested against Tinubu in February 25 presidential elections.
“Honestly let’s not cherry pick, can an elder statesman who vehemently breached the rotation convention in his party’s constitution and the subsisting national rotation convention sincerely talk of the rule of law? For it’s trite law that he who comes to equity must come with clean hands.
“Whereas one, like most of our countrymen is concerned over the whirlwind raised over the Chicago State University’s Papers, however, the bottom line is the survival of our nascent democracy.”
Atiku is still contesting the results of the election and Bola Tinubu’s qualifications to contests. The theater of war moved to the US where Tinubu’s certificate is the bone of contention. After a US authorized release of said certificate, netizens have continued to doubt the authencity of it.
Okechukwu has urged Atiku to step down and apologize for betraying his party and supporters.
