Nottingham Forest has officially dismissed manager Steve Cooper following a string of poor performances, losing five of their last six games.
Cooper, 44, played a pivotal role in guiding Nottingham Forest to Premier League promotion in 2022. He ended a 23-year absence from the top flight in his first season of coaching the team. Owner Evangelos Marinakis acknowledged Cooper’s impact.
“His achievement in guiding Forest back will undoubtedly remain an iconic moment in the club’s history.”
Marinakis also express expressed gratitude for the work Cooper had done in the club.
“We thank Steve for his dedication and commitment during his time with us, as well as the incredible connection he forged with our supporters and the city of Nottingham. Steve will always remain a friend of the club and will forever be welcome at the City Ground. We wish him well in his future endeavors.”
Recent Struggles and Decision
Cooper, still a popular figure among the fans, received the news of his departure on Tuesday. Nottingham Forest, currently 17th in the Premier League, has faced a challenging period, winning only once in their last 13 top-flight games and accumulating eight points during that stretch. The team has earned just one point from their last six matches, placing them five points ahead of third-from-bottom Luton, who have a match in hand.
Cooper’s final game in charge ended in a 2-0 home defeat by Tottenham last Friday, marking the conclusion of his tenure with the club.
Talks with Nuno Espirito Santo
As Nottingham Forest seeks a new leader, former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo is reportedly in talks to take over the managerial position. The club is hopeful that Santo can bring fresh perspective and success to the team.
The departure of Steve Cooper marks a significant chapter in Nottingham Forest’s recent history, and the impending appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo adds anticipation to the club’s future direction.
