On Monday night, ASUU’s National President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, signed a memo instructing it members to join in the nation wide strike.
The memo enjoined all zonal coordinators and union chairpersons to mobilize members for the nationwide strike. This is in aligning with directives from the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress.
Osodeke stated, “The Nigeria Labour Congress… directed all affiliate unions to commence withdrawal of services with effect from 12 midnight today, November 13, 2023.
As an affiliate of NLC, all members of our union are hereby directed to join this action… Zonal coordinators and branch chairpersons should immediately mobilize our members to participate in the action. A people united cannot be defeated.”
The PUNCH reported on Monday that the Labour Centres announced the commencement of a nationwide strike, protesting the assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero and other executives in Owerri, Imo State, on November 1, as well as pending labor issues in Imo State.
Ajaero’s arrest by the police was revealed by the NLC’s Head of Information, Benson Upah.
