In a chaotic and controversial night at Tottenham, Mauricio Pochettino, now with Chelsea, led his team to victory against his former club.
The match, filled with drama, had five goals scored, five disallowed goals, a Hat-trick, two red cards, and numerous VAR decisions. As a neutral, the game was very interesting, making it one of the Premier League’s most frenzied encounters.
Spurs’ Early Dominance and Chelsea’s Fightback
Tottenham started strong, taking the lead in the sixth minute when Dejan Kulsevski’s shot deflected off Chelsea defender Levi Colwill.
Son Heung-min’s effort was narrowly ruled out for offside as Spurs aimed to capitalize on their dominance.
Chelsea had two goals disallowed due to handball and offside. Raheem Sterling was deemed to have handled the ball and Moises Caicedo’s was ruled out for offside. A penalty was however awarded after a challenge by Romero on Enzo Fernandez in the build up to Caicedo disallowed goal. This led to Romero’s dismissal and penalty awarded which Cole Palmer converted, leveling the match.
Tottenham Injury Challenges
Tottenham faced setbacks with injuries to key players Micky van de Ven and James Maddison, but their situation worsened when Destiny Udogie was sent off.
Despite being down to nine men, Spurs continued to resist Chelsea’s attacks. However, Raheem Sterling set up Nicolas Jackson, breaking Tottenham’s defense with 15 minutes remaining. Although Spurs had goals disallowed and came close to equalizing, Jackson completed a late hat-trick in stoppage time, securing a comfortable victory for Chelsea.
