The 2023 African Action Congress, AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has leveled grave accusations against Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State.
Sowore claims that Uzodinma made an attempt on the life of Joe Ajaero, the National President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC.
Sowore didn’t mince his words, urging the NLC to take drastic action in response to this alleged attack. He called upon the NLC to shut down the entire nation in protest until Governor Uzodinma is ousted from office.
The incident in question unfolded during an NLC protest in Owerri, the capital of Imo State. Ajaero, who was present to rally Imo workers for a massive protest against the alleged violation and abuse of workers’ rights by the state government, was met with disruption by a group of troublemakers.
The situation escalated into violence, forcing the intervention of the Nigeria Police Force. Ajaero was taken away by the police, prompting conflicting accounts of the incident. While some Nigerians criticized the police for their handling of the situation, the law enforcement agency vehemently denied arresting Ajaero without cause. They asserted that he was detained in response to an attack against him.
In response to these events, Sowore took to social media, expressing his outrage. He posted a message on X, condemning the alleged attack as barbaric and unacceptable. In his post, Sowore directly accused Governor Uzodinma of orchestrating the assault, referring to it as an attempt to possibly assassinate the NLC President. Sowore’s message was clear: he called for immediate action, urging the NLC to lead a nationwide shutdown until Governor Uzodinma and his alleged thugs are removed from office. Sowore’s call echoed the sentiments of many who are demanding justice and accountability in the face of this disturbing incident. #RevolutionNow
