The Supreme Court set to deliver judgment on Thursday, October 26, 2023, will hear cases involving the Labour Party LP, and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi; the Peoples Democratic PARTY, PDP and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Both parties are challenging the All Progressives Congress, APC and its candidate, Bola Tinubu win at the February 25 presidential election.
PDP and LP candidates anticipate the court will overturn President Bola Tinubu’s victory at the polls.
Both the PDP presidential candidate and his LP counterpart have appealed the September 6 ruling of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) that upheld Tinubu’s electoral victory.
The judgment date, confirmed by all parties on Wednesday, follows the Supreme court’s decision to reserve judgment after counsels to parties adopted their briefs of argument and made final submissions.
The court also considered arguments regarding the motion filed by Atiku to present fresh evidence on forged documents .
Despite Atiku Abubakar’s counsel’s plea to grant the motion and disqualify Tinubu, counsels for the Respondents, including Abubakar Mahmoud for the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Wole Olanipekun for President Tinubu, and Akin Olujinmi for the All Progressives Congress (APC), urged the court to dismiss both the motion and appeal, citing lack of merit.
