Senator Elisha Abbo publicly retracted his earlier allegation that Senate President Godswill Akpabio orchestrated his removal through the Court of Appeal.
Senator Abbo expressed remorse during an interview on Arise Television.
“I have to say this with all sense of humility and responsibility that the press release we issued yesterday was premature and based on the available information at our disposal yesterday.”
He clarified that after discussions with the Senate president, he was convinced of Akpabio’s innocence.
“I swear by my mother’s grave that I’m not involved; I don’t even know that you’re in court,” the Senate President had claimed.
Abbo had initially made the accusation at his Abuja residence following the Court of Appeal’s decision to nullify his Senate election.
Despite his removal, he maintained his claim of winning the election against the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate by 11,000 votes.
The appellate court’s unanimous decision favored PDP’s Amos Yohanna, setting aside the tribunal’s judgment in Abbo’s favor.
Senator Abbo came to the public eye when he controversially assaulted a lady in an Abuja sex toy shop in 2019. The assault resulted in a court order for him to pay N50 million in damages. Abbo confirmed his removal from the legislative house via a Facebook post, urging his supporters and constituents to remain calm.
