President Bola Tinubu has named Mr. Ola Olukoyede as the head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The appointment is however subject to the ratification of the Senate.
Speaking on behalf of the President spokesman Ajuri Ngelale emphasized President Tinubu’s authority under section 2 (3) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004 to appoint a EFCC Chief.
“The Chairman and members of the Commission, other than ex-officio members, shall be appointed by the President.”
Olukoyede is a lawyer with 22 years of experience in regulatory compliance consulting, fraud management, and corporate intelligence. He has worked within the organization in different capabilities. His appointment follows the resignation of the suspended Executive Chairman, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa.
Additionally, President Tinubu approved the appointment of Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda as the Secretary of the anti-graft Commission for a renewable term of five years. Hammajoda, a public administrator, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maiduguri and a Masters in Business Administration from the same university. Ngelale mentioned Hammajoda’s diverse career, starting as a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, and later transitioning into banking with successful stints at the defunct Allied Bank and Standard Trust Bank.
President Tinubu urged the new EFCC leadership to live up to the confidence placed in them. He emphasized their vital role in the renewed fight against corruption, highlighting the reformed institutional architecture in the anti-corruption sector as a central pillar of the President’s Renewed Hope agenda.
